Kierstin Schupack was born and raised in New Mexico, where she spent her childhood chasing cloud shadows across the dirt fields at recess, and daydreaming about moving somewhere else with more trees.

 

Years later, she has come to love and appreciate the turquoise skies, expansive landscapes, and rich artistic heritage that shaped her. 

 

Art has been woven through her family for generations. On her father's side, she comes from a long line of artists, including Taos Pueblo painters Pop Chalee and Pop Wea. Her maternal grandfather, Carl E. Ness, was a landscape painter inspired by the beauty of his native Alaska and adopted home in New Mexico. Her first job was in her grandfather’s frame shop, picking up stray framing nails from the workshop floor with a magnet.

 

Today, Kierstin paints landscapes and subjects that feel both familiar and a little magical. Through her work, she hopes to capture the beauty, atmosphere, and sense of wonder found in the everyday world. 

 

 “Most of my paintings begin with a photograph, a memory, or a place that catches my attention and stays with me. I am often drawn to ordinary scenes, a winding road, an open field, a cloudy sky, but what interests me most is the luminous and sacred beauty we tend overlook in our busy every day lives."
